A Family Run Business
Donald Boatswain started a joinery business in the 1960’s trading under the name BC Joinery. The business operated out of a self-built workshops situated on Florida Terrace; land previously owned by a Wheelwright, Donald brought the land and created a thriving joinery firm. Both Donald’s son (Martin) and son-in-law (Paul) worked for BC Joinery, helping to keep the family business booming throughout the 80’s and 90’s.
Donald’s grandson, Ben, has always shown a passion and talent for joinery, and has taken up the mantle, creating his own Joinery business operating under the name Boatswain Joinery. This name is both an ode to his grandad Donald and to the joinery journey the Boatswain family has had.
Boatswain Joinery continues to operate from the same workshop on Florida Terrace and Ben aspires to achieve the same success as his gramp.

Our vision is to continue combining traditional craftsmanship with innovative design. We have big aspirations to expand Boatswain Joinery, training future generations and expanding our covering areas whilst maintaining our aim to create timeless pieces that perfectly complement your space and lifestyle.

Through the support of joinery knowledge from several generations, Ben ensures that the ethos of the company matches both the vision and mission statement. Looking to the future, our goals include education and employment of future joiners, continued customer excellence, and continuing to refine our craftsmanship, through the merging of traditional and modern approaches.
